John William Clowes (1873) was born in Oldham, Lancashire, the son of Charles Clowes (1841) and Amy Proctor.
Enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps in 1915. Served as a Blacksmith in France from 1915 to 1919. Sustained burns to his hands and eyes in 1919 and subsequently discharged.
