Note: The parentage here is a bit speculative. The logic goes like this: The parentage here is a bit speculative. The logic goes like this: John's son William (1826) had a son Robert (1848) who pitches up on the 1861 Jobling Close (1798) census record as a grandson. There is nothing to suggest that any of Jobling's children had a son called Robert, born in that year. He's the only one around at the time. Difficult relationships (i.e. anything other than Son, Daughter, Nephew, etc) tended to be dumped onto the census records as a best fit. Robert is clearly a relation of Jobling, but if he's actually the grandson of John (William's father) then he would be a grand-nephew of Jobling, which is too complicated. So, putting 2 and 2 together, we've reached the conclusion that John is actually the brother of Jobling, and that Robert is a grand-nephew, and not a grandson as shown on the 1861 census. |
